The Answer to our Scoring Problems

From the Sunday Mirror

West Ham are using a secret weapon to help them beat the drop – lucky goal nets at Upton Park. The Hammers changed their nets at the start of the season but mustered just 10 goals in 11 home league games. Fans sitting behind the goals complained, unhappy at the thick mesh netting obstructing their view of what little action there was. The club promptly brought back last season’s nets – and since the switch, before the Brighton game, smacked six goals in 180 minutes. Football Licensing Authority inspector Lou Elliston said: “Fans complained that the nets impaired their sight lines, so the club changed them back to the old ones.” Now all Alan Curbishley needs to figure out is how to stop the opposition using the lucky nets.

Well that’s explained it then!
