ESPN to Showcase Greatest West Ham Victories

I have just spent a very enjoyable half an hour being interviewed by ESPN for a programme they are making about West Ham’s greatest victories of the last three decades or so. I got to share my memories of the two Cup finals, the 5-4 victory over Bradford, 3-2 against Arsenal, 4-0 against Villa and last year’s 1-0 victory at Old Trafford. The programme will go out sometime during December. Not sure who else has taken part.

Ian, I hope that you included the FA Cup semi games against Everton in 1980! I have to admit, those games turned me from Man Utd to the Hammers…and the rest, as they say, is history…..

That Bradford game was appalling. The only reason they scored more than one goal was because Bywater was having a Fred Astaire in goal. That was the game that both sides did their best to lose.

I know you probably didn’t pick the games, Iain, but what about the 1-0 win over the Mancs in the FA Cup when Di Canio mugged Barthez?

The best game i have ever seen was at home against Southampton in september 1981 a midweek league game in which there were 6 goals and the best player on the pitch was on the losing side and fortunately for us he was’nt one of ours,we won 4-2 with Goddard scoring a hat trick and me and my mate Steve still talk about this game in which Kevin Keegan was outstanding and there could have been 20 goals as it was one of those games which was end to end throughout,it really was a classic.
