    Nope we need a striker

  2. Big Casino says:

A striker in January, but in the summer, if we are genuine about pushing forward we need to go out and buy a dominant and commanding central midfielder to run the show…. it’s something we’ve always lacked……. Marc vivien foe was starting to show that kind of potential just before he left us, but apart from him I struggle to think of another player in recent times who has that presence in the middle. I don’t think people like Reo-Coker, Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard et al were dominant in that position for us.

Parker and Noble are both quality players, but they’re both similar in style, play and stature……

We could also do with finding another left back – though kudos to George McCartney who is doing a more than able job there currently.

  3. Bobby says:

A striker, left back and verstatile attacking midfielder..

    Fred, Shorey and Barnes anyone?

  4. Col says:

Agree with Casino, we deifnately need another central midfielder now that Parker is crocked again and a creative one at that, we are certainly missing something from that position and a creative central midfielder with Mullins as defensive cover, Ethers and Faubert would give alot more to the abilities of Dean Ashton.

Disagree with needing a left back though, however, I wouldn’t say no to Shorey as cover for McCartney.

  5. JackHammer says:

Whats with the need for a left back????

  6. Darren says:

A left back is a must – McCartney has made the spot his own but we can’t have just one at the club. I’d skip Shorey, though, and go for Matty Taylor at Portsmouth as he can deputise in midfield, too, and when Etherington is out we lack any form of penetration at all.

Everywhere else, though, we need think only of betterment – let’s be honest, we have an abundance of OK or not so OK strikers in Zamora, Cole, Ashton, Camara, and loads of OK players just about everywhere else, but if we are going to buy it has to be world class from now on. We don’t lack for numbers, only guile and quality. So I’d either sit tight till the summer or write a cheque for someone with star quality of a Di Canio, a Tevez or the like. It’s class we’re missing – and Cisse, Bent, Defoe, Viduka or any of the other nonsense we have been linked with isn’t that.

I’d rather have two world class stars a year from now than half a dozen injury-prone cast offs to make up the numbers. Been there, done that, have them sitting on the payroll right now.
