Few Changes Likely Against Spurs

I don’t think there will many changes to the lineup against Tottenham. After three clean sheets few people would suggest a change in the defence, so I guess it is only the midfield which might see a change. Faubert’s form certainly suggests he should make way, but who for? Personally, assuming he’s not injured I’d bring in Etherington to give us some pace and width down the left and move Behrami out to the right and bring in Mark Noble in the middle. I think Zola will probably stick with Mullins, but I can certainly see an argument for Jack Collison making a strong claim too.

So, are we feeling positive? I just hope when I get home tomorrow night, I can report that we have scored a famous victory and we’ve shot six places up the table.

Oh, and if the match announcer is reading this, can we please have the proper version of Bubbles back, and have it played at the right time. Is that too much to ask?

Iain, I think it is going to be a tight game tomorrow but I am hoping that we can make it 4 clean sheets in a row (a record for the Hammers in the Premiership). I totally agree with your comment regarding Faubert. In my view, he has never lived up to expectations – he doesn’r look confident taking players on down the flank and he can’t pass or shoot to save his life ! Hope we offload him in January.

  2. jon.london colney says:

mullins may not be the right man from the start however if we get in front with 20 to go then he should be on to stop any horibles happening.anyone know where ethers has disapeared 2? he started the season very well but thats it..

  3. E1 says:

only change I would make is faubert for LBM,yes I know he plays left and you all think he is s**T but he will get back and give neil some help and with spurs pace he will need it. and going forward he can come inside and let berahmi overlap. Mullins has done a good job last couple of games so why change the starting line up in the mid field ? Big game big performance Hammers win COYI!!!!

  4. daniel says:

Mullins or Collison? it will probably be Noble for Bowyer, alongside Parker.

  5. Graybo says:

Proper version of Bubbles not being played? Sack him and bring back the Royal British Legion Band ;o)

  6. Roshi says:

Good ‘ol Arry, how many different quotes can one man give to so many journalists on one game.
Keep going ‘ol son you might forget the team talk at this rate!

  7. Gorgonzola says:

Noble too slow for this fast paced London derby.

Gotta be Bowyer….fire him up and make him think of his Leeds days when he used to make those late bursts into the box and put a few away.

This will also mean that Parker will not have to try to get forward as well as sitting in front of the back four and thus lasting only 60 minutes. He has to be more disciplined….the Everton come back is a clear example of what happened when he got knackered.

  8. Gorgonzola says:

Lopez on the left wing please….somebody…anybody…..anything with a left foot has got to be better than Etherington

  9. hammeredcalv says:

i think we will see a couple of changes to the liverpool line up as we will need to attack more in this game, i would, move Bellamy to right mid in place of mullins and start both Cole & Tristan up front to intimidate mr gomes !! i think we will win this one 3 nil ! Spurs will find it hard to live with us tonight, aslong as we can deal with lennons pace we should be fine !

    COYI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Gorgonzola says:

Faubert screamer wins it!!! Come on Julien….show the doubters. Take more shots at goal….you used to in France!

  11. Boleyn Boy says:

Defence and the Green machine is a no brainer now (thank God)!!! I think Camenbert has to be dropped and Behrami put into the RM slot where he is happiest. LBM has to start on the left as his pace and tenacity should upset the pathetics early doors. Don’t rely on the lad to score goals but just get into ’em. Then I wouldn’t mind seeing Parker holding with Mullins to just lock down the midfield or with Collison floating between Parker and Strikers. Bellers of course to start, but I think Tristan should get a run out tonight as Cole seems to have gone AW(f)OL again. Am soooooooo up for this one lads. Let’s just get the job done for Zola (doncha just luvvim) and our good name. The crowd are gonna play a massive role in tonight’s outcome. Get behind Ilunga too, after the press tried to alienate him from us this week. Let’s show the best left back in the prem exactly why he should be signing a permanent deal in Jan! COYI

  12. Simon says:

On the announcer front, I e-mailed the club after the last game to berate them about the appalling performance. Playing a new version of bubbles was the least of it! It was played so quiet you could hardly hear it; the wrong pictures were shown for our players on the screen and poor old Upson wasn’t mentioned at all!

Anyway, I got a reply from the Head of Corporate affairs who said he was aware of issues with the announcements and was personally taking action. He anticipated improvement for the Spurs game…so we’ll see tonight!

  13. DevoDevo says:

Start with Behrami on right, Collison parker in the middle & LBM on left. I know he has his detractors, but this is just the sort of game for his endeavour. he will also give Ilunga some cover to deal with Lennon, something Etherington rarely does.

Sears up front with bellers (Spurs are donkeys at the back) and replace LBM for the last 20 with Etherington.

    1-0 or 2-1 and Europe beckons. đŸ™‚

  14. CHRIS says:

HOPE ARRY DONT BRING LENNON OVER TO THE LEFT,NEILL WILL STRUGGLE WITH PACE,,,,BEHRAMI IN THE MIDDLE FOR ME ON WORK RATE ALONE,,,DONT THINK THERE WILL BE MANY GOALS IN THIS,WE DONT SEEM TO HAVE MANY GOALS IN US, IF ANY!!!! I KNOW WE HAVE KEPT 2 CLEAN SHEETS,BUT THIS FLAT FOUR WITH A RIGHT FOOTER ON THE LEFT AND A RIGHT FULLBACK IN MIDFIELD,HOW LONG BEFORE THE BUBBLE BURSTS….COYI…POSITIVE APPROACH!!!!!!!! FAUBERT THIS COULD BE YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE UP FOR THE BAD GAME AT LIVERPOOL SO TAKE IT SON DONT LET US DOWN WE PAID 6M FOR YOU, SO GET YOUR HEAD UP AND PASS TO SOME FEET!!!!!!!!!

  15. charlie ronce says:

No need for any changes whatsoever. Contrary to some peoples over hyping of this game it will probably be a dull draw. We can’t pass or score while they have been scoring freely since the dodgy car salesman took over. We will probably also be outsung by spurs fans (Upton Park has been a morgue this season).
    0-0 draw.

  16. Tony says:

Bring back Jeremy, that’s what I say.

Oh, as match announcer that is, not on the left wing – the current jokers really do not have a clue.

  17. Paul M says:

any live streams for the game?

  18. jpt says:

Radio 5 Live have commentary – it’ll do for me!

  19. E1 says:

The subsitutions were shit !!!!!!! No way When faubert came off should noble have come on, bellemy should have gone wide right and tristin gone up front with cole, that was poor decision making ALL down to the manager,he paniced F****NG S**t !!!!! does he really think we can get anything from the Chelsea game playing like that ! does he want us too ?sorry but zola has got to take the blame for this he gave up when the 1st goal went in, he turned in to curbs, AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!

  20. Bally says:

very very poor. Can somebody tell me where Freddie Sears is?

  21. hammeredcalv says:

very dissapionting ! very depressing !! thats the worst i have seen us play this season ! we had nothing going forward, we never looked like scoring, we were outplayed from the very start ! wrong team selection, wrong formation !

COLLISON IS THE ANSWER TO OUR BORING MIDFIELDERS !

DROP COLE AND PLEY TRISTAN !

  22. not deluded says:

We are a complete and utter shambles all over the pitch, it wouldn’t have made any difference who got taken off or who came on or where they played, it was just Zola making out he was doing something when really he knew it would have no impact whatsoever.
72 minutes!! yes, 72 minutes was the time on the clock when we had our first shot on target, that says it all about how terrible we are. For all his selfish play trying to get all the glory for himself, Bellamy had no shots on target at all. At least Cole managed one on target. We can’t pass, we can’t shoot, and we sure can’t score. We are going to get absolutely battered on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
What’s with people thinking Tristan is the answer? Tristan is a knackered old carthorse, just like Di Michele. If he was any good don’t you think he would have been used by now, he was a free agent!! that speaks volumes of how knackered and past it he is (not one team in the whole continent of Europe wanted him lol). He was only bought on tonight as an act of desperation by a novice manager who hasn’t got a clue. Trust me Tristan wouldn’t even be the answer for our reserve team. We’ll be bottom three by christmas at this rate.

  23. CHRIS says:

I SAID I COULDN,T SEE WHERE A GOALS COMING FROM AND I STILL CANT ,5 STRIKERS AND THEY ARE ALL SHITE,,,,EXCEPT BELLAMY WHOS REALLY A WINGER,,,AS IVE SAID FOR AGES ON HERE YOU HAVE TO SPEND PROPER MONEY TO GET A REAL QUALITY FRONT MAN OTHERWISE YOU JUST DONT SCORE,WE MISS DEANO BIGTIME!!!! AND A SCORING MIDFIELDER.
TROUBLE IS THERES NO MONEY CURBS SPENT…
    6M ON FAUBERT
    6M ON DYER
    5M ON LBM
ALL OF THESE WERE SUPPOSE TO SCORE GOALS

  24. CHRIS says:

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO OR WHAT FORMATION ZOLA PICKS ,THERE JUST ISNT A STRIKERS OR MIDFIELDERS THAT SCORE,JUGGLE IT HOW YOU LIKE IT WONT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE!!!!!!SEE YOU ALL IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP (A REALLY DEPRESSED HAMMER GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE)

  25. irontc says:

o dear o dear o dear, wht the fukk was that? there simply arnt any positives? Just as I thought we were turning the corner? how wrong can u b ? complete and utter shite the lot of em!

  26. CHRIS says:

NOT EVERYONE WAS SHITE THOUGHT MULLINS HAD A GOOD GAME.

  27. Iron Lung says:

That was a total disgrace. I am numb with shock. Zola & Clarke are crowing about making them hard to beat: hard to watch, more like. If we had all sat there til Christmas we still wouldn’t have scored. We went sideways or backwards. And for such a cultured and inventive player as Zola was, its unfathomable to me how we appear to have told Collins and Upson to hoof it 60 yardsa and hope it bounces off Cole’s head for someone else. Why oh why is he in the team?????? Cole has GOT to be dropped now. We’ve all been patient enough. A long hard winter coming up….

  28. NewSpur says:

Tonight was a real strange one for me. It was my first game as a Spurs supporter after finally snappin and changing my allegiance. Overall I feel vindicated. I think W Ham were outplayed and there was only one team that was going to win. I think over the remainder of my life here on in I can be certain of one thing… I will watch my team win more games than I would have watched my old team win. Life it too short….

    Come on you Lillywhites!!

  29. Dave Hall says:

I don’t understand why on earth he doesn’t give Collison more games, and if a proven forward to partner Bellamy isn’t brought in this January we are finished.

  30. CHRIS says:

5 YEARS WITH CARLTON COLE I’M SO SO DEPRESSED.

  31. claire says:

The midfield lost it for us, I’m afraid. Cole can’t score if no-one gets the ball to him. Mind you, with 4 strikers on none of them looked like scoring. Spurs were mediocre but their cracking goal gave them heart and if the game had gone on 3 minutes longer I swear they’d have scored another 2. And what weird substitutions- we were sort of playing 4-2-4 at the end,

  32. martin brown says:

How much blood* longer do we have to put up with carlton cole !!!
never thought i would ever say bring back Harewood !
crikey he was uselss but cole … !!
    he is another league…
whenever the ball goes forwards back it comes straight again.
every time he plays its like weplay with 10 players…
If the chelsea prat keeps picking him then he must be the
crap manager we all feared he would be…

    Thanks board !!!!

  33. Goody says:

Im so glad I have cancelled my Sports subscription from Sky, Utter total trash, im ashamed, let down and unhappy. Why oh why have we wasted millions on a pile of poo. I will not be sitting through this tosh no more. We are a laughing stock!! None of the players hearts are in it, maybe apart from Illunja and he isnt even ours!

  34. P says:

With Zola going on about the worth of Steve Clarke this week it made me wonder if we employed the wrong one, maybe it should have been Clarke as manager and Zola as a trainee coach. If credit is due to Clarke and fitness coach Antonio Pintus, then what exactly does Zola bring? He preaches attacking football yet the passing and lack of goals contradicts this. He preaches about bringing youth through yet doesn’t include any of them, preferring instead to loan them out to Championship teams, maybe in preparation for next season when we will be playing in that league.
Oh, and Cole can only work with what he gets, if what he gets is poor or non existent then theres not much he can do, and balls hoofed all the way from defence aren’t gonna do it either. Our problems are chiefly in midfield, not keeping possession and not creating chances. None of our midfield are good enough frankly.

  35. CHRIS says:

JUST WOKE UP GOING TO WORK MEGA DEPRESSED….LETS BE HONEST GUYS WE JUST DONT HAVE ENOUGH QUALITY FOR THIS LEVEL…….BUT PLEASE ZOLA LETS GO OUT FIGHTING NO MORE OF THIS HARD TO BEAT BORING FORMATION…LETS GET BACK TO WINGERS AND A SCORING MIDFIELDER…

  36. E1 says:

Zola has to make some changes, if he knows how ! I know he needs time and I am all for that but has he got any ideas? not looking at last night. Even if ashton was playing at the top of his game he would’nt have scored we hardly had a chance ! Not looking good Not at all.

  37. RunningHammer says:

Very depressing…Mullins, Parker, and Collins played a blinder and Green had a good game too. But where are the goals going to come from? We have so many strikers and not one of them looks capable of scoring a goal at the moment. Our midfield is dull….Parker is playing well but there’s no creativity from any of them. Maybe it is time to give Faubert a jolt – drop him for a couple of games and give Collison a run.

Also I can’t remember the last time we attacked anyone down the flanks – it’s all straight up the middle and then the ball either comes back or we give it away!

As for Cole – enough already said about him here. We hoof too many long balls up to him for my liking. All he does is get it to ground, falls over, and gives it away – or more often heads it on for Bellamy in completely the wrong direction. Can’t fault his effort but it’s not enough. All our forwards need a much higher strike rate.

It’ll be interesting to see who gets sold in January.

  38. RunningHammer says:

I don’t think Ashton’s the answer either – before he got injured (again) he looked as unlikely to score as anyone else. In fact he looked like couldn’t be bothered half the time.

  39. hammeredcalv says:

still depressed this morning ! i just still cant beleive how f*cking awful we were, there is not one creative player in our team ! wheres our traditions gone ?? wheres our paulo ? our trevor brooking ? our geoff hurst ?, our joe cole ? our alan devonshire ? the names could go on & on ! match winners !! we got f*cking carlton cole for another 5 years !

  40. Roy says:

Having a go at individual players isn’t the answer. The fact is that we have not got enough quality or creativity in the team. We are desperately short of a midfield playmaker and a real goalscorer. Agreed, Cole didn’t have his best game last night but he won more than his share in the air last night but there was nobody running on to pick it up. That’s the game he has been asked to play and I think he is being let down by the midfield not anticipating positionally. And he has not developed any understanding with Bellamy. Cole ahs never been a prolific scorer and neither has Bellamy but the real problem is in midfield where we have too many similar players. Parker, Noble, Mullins and even Collison are much of a muchness. The biggest difference between the two teams last night was the movement in midfield and the varying styles of their players which complimented each other and therefore added to their performance. We have to make do with what we’ve got but one thing Zola could do is get the balance of the side better. Behrami looks far more comfortable and effective on the right so move him there and bring Etherington of LBM onto the left. At least that would give us some width. The defence is OK, although we are awfully short of good cover should one of them get injured, but they will still concede goals if they are consistently under pressure because the midfield lose the ball and it keeps coming back at them.
The biggest worry is that the club will receive decent offers for Green and Upson in January and that they will accept them. That will really nail us on for the drop – which could happen anyway if we continue to fail to be able to break teams down at home. Scrapping the odd point away from home with a backs to the wall performance will not be enough.

  41. jon.london colney says:

this is not funny anymore, how the hell cn zola be happy with that team and not wanting to buy anyone in the window?

were useing the wrong players in certain games, mullins played very well but at home when we need to be taking the game to them he is not the right man, mullins is a holding player so use him when we need that role,as for cole, well, ffs what is he doing? i have no idea what he is being asked to do as a forward player and surley if zola is the manager then we should be banging in shed loads right?

nice to see paolo there ,someone get him a job within the club, even if its making the tea !!!

in hiding and depressed in london colney

  42. Roshi says:

Rubbish, I’m fed up with the whole bl**dy lot of them! Unless something really drastic happens, like we start scoring goals, it will get worse. For heavens sake get Billy Bonds and Paulo into that flipping dressing room sooner rather than later and get some bleeding pride and backbone into that spineless bunch of so called premiership footballers.
Since I walked into Upton Park in 1966 I have been subjected to a roller coaster of emotion but I have never seen it like this, what on earth has happened to my beloved club…..corporate football I guess.
