West Ham Till I Die 2.0

This site is about to undergo a design makeover. RouseMedia is designing a new banner and layout.

If you have any suggestions for features you’d like to see included on the new site, do let me know.

  1. brooking is still the best says:

Cool idea, Iain Dale getting hip. lol Nearly as strange as Faubert’s move to Real. It’s a funny old game

  2. Andrew says:

For those with visual impairments, or just plain short sighted and mide 40s like me, please make sure a) the font size is not too tiny and/or b) when the “zoom level” function on IE 7 is used the site does not look too bad and does not require too much fiddling around with the left/right scroll bars!

  3. Biffo the bear says:

quite surprised that anyone still uses IE!!! see above for reasons 🙂

  4. D&G says:

    able to quote someone please.

  5. DagenhamHammer says:

Try and make it WAP friendly for when I can’t be bothered with the laptop!

  6. Roshi says:

Maybe the facility to be able to contact other contributors by a private message/email service as a bolt on to the site.
Its often been suggested by various contributors to meet up for a beer or a chat, but its difficult to arrange through the blog.

  7. Hayden says:

I would like a picture of Faubert saying “Lest We Forget”

  8. Jonny says:

Highlights of the last west ham game I understand that this might be difficult to do but I will never get sick of watching west ham score.

  9. Hayden says:

On a serious note, a profile. Just a simple one so you can remained signed in?

  10. Hayden says:

Oh wait – I think you can sign into WordPress. Ignore the above haha. Apologies!

  11. Graybo says:

Agree with Roshi that the option to PM (private message) people would be good.

I like the very simple layout of the blog, and the fact that you can now opt in for alerts regarding updates.

I guess you have built up enough of a following to justify adverts, banners, paid links, etc, but it would be nice to keep the betting and gambling sites to a minimum… but, hey, it’s your blog. That said, thank you for asking for opinions before the revamp. Much appreciated.

I’m also giving this blog at least 60 per cent of the credit for the improvement in our team’s fortunes. Messrs Zola and Clarke seem like good eggs, but they’ve obviously cottoned on to the rich vein of expertise available on here.

  12. Phil says:

Nice to see the Celebrity Hammers Fans column, how about a pro footballers one. ie Zamora Noble etc

  13. Tonez says:

A weekly poll would be cool

  14. Martin of Surbiton says:

This site is very much not broke (within the meaning of the act) so please include as many web 2.0 features as you can but most importantly please keep it simple – we read your and others’ comments, we post our own if so inspired and if it’s not offensive, you let it be published.

I’m delighted but not surprised that this is so highly rated amongst all the Premiership forums (fora?). Quality will out. COYI

  15. Graybo says:

Yes, Martin of Surbiton… that’s a very good way of putting it… very much not broke.

  16. Benfleet hammer says:

Maybe you should remove the late Reg Varney from the Celebrity Supporters and add Nicolas Cage after all I remember him wearing a Whu shirt when he was filming Capt Corellis mandolin and it was featured in the match day programme. I don’t think we can claim Rod Stewart as when he sings in concert he has a celtic badge on the stage floor. I used to see Kenny Ball of Midnight in Moscow over WHU a few times and I once saw John Lloyd the tennis player with one of the Nolan sisters in the old east stand before he married Chris Evert

  17. whambam says:

a link to a league table, can’t find one on the official site (how strange is that? perhaps its me), maybe results and fixtures

  18. chris says:

Lets have a bit of humour on the front.
In one of those boxes what about kieron dyer in a wheelchair.

  19. Johnboy says:

Ian mate, site’s great. New look, great. Only problem; yer head’s too big. Now don’t get me wrong – credit where credit’s due, and anyone could have a swollen swede forgiven in light of your recent plaudits, but not only does your napper dwarf our glorious crest, it also looks like you’ve exploded from Green Street in some weird manga-inspired godzilla moment. Judging by the look on Carlton’s face you just scored the cup-winning goal in extra time n all. There’s even some backlighting to his suitably beatific beam. Of course I only write in jest, so please don’t think I’m taking the **** too much. It’s just that I’m from Essex too, and once the image of a cut-away-collar wearing Godzilla from Tunbridge Wells had taken root I just had to share. All the best and keep up the (very) good werk.

  20. richo says:

As mentioned above it aint broke so keep it simple. I like the idea of highlights from the last game though. Keep up the good work.

  21. richo says:

I like your sense of humor Johnboy…

  22. Roymondo says:

Whatever you do, Iain, don’t lose what you’ve already got. This is the best blog around which is down to your threads and regular postings – which keeps it current – and the contributors on the site. If you can enhance it, great.

  23. Maybe an upated pic of yourself, or is it this way you want to be remembered 😉

  24. CC says:

How about a small section for a small nugget of information that changes weekly…along the lines of:

West Hams record attendance (high and low)…
The player sent off the most times in a season…
The player that lasted the shortest time at the club…
    Our most capped player…
    The CEO’s annual salary…
    Our fatest/heavies player ever…

Interesting (or funny) stuff that may not be well known or easily available.

    Content up to you, obviously…

  25. JackHammer says:

If you could explain to a non techie how people put their photo or sign in the box!!

  26. DevoDevo says:

Could you ask contributors not to post irrelevant posts on threads?

I need a new heating element for my Neff oven. If anyone has got any information to where I could find one, please let me know.

  27. Roshi says:

I know what you you mean DevoDevo,

    Its snowing in Bromley

  28. Roshi says:

Do we know if any players or club officials read the blog, (or contribute, no names mentioned!)
If so perhaps we could have some interviews etc

  29. DevoDevo says:

Seriously, Iain. I always enjoy adding my player ratings to post-match threads. Perhaps you could encourage more people to do so and we could average out the scores at the end of the season to award WHTID Hammer of the Year?

I would also be intersted to see the best West Ham XI from all contributors – maybe a separate thread when it is a little quiet?

  30. jon.london colney says:

ha ha,arse cant afford there striker and hes waiting at an airport to go home, have a great day wenger you miserable bad looser!!!

  31. Roymondo says:

How about a Guest Thread spot? Contributors could send their suggestions to a separate email address and Iain could select the best.

  32. Goatygav says:

I like the conciseness and clean look and feel. It’s not overly fussy or “Bells and Whitley,” which means you don’t have to hunt around to find different posts & comments in different areas.

It’s all here – in one easily accessible place.

  33. claire says:

I love this clean, uncomplicated site. Thanks, Iain. If you have to change anything, please keep it simple, keep it legible (larger font and dark type) and if you retain the celebrity Hammers fans, add Roger Protz, the noted beer writer, to the list.

  34. Roymondo says:

I’ve been very close to beer for many years and I’ve never heard of Roger Protz. He doesn’t do much writing in my local.

  35. Goatygav says:

Wow – the worlds premier beer writer. http://www.beer-pages.com/protz.shtml .

Knowledgeable about beer and football. That’s my kind of writer.

  36. Goatygav says:

Cheers Claire. I’ll be going through his top 10 ales in the next few weeks.

  37. Roymondo says:

Well, Goatygav, I too am knowledgeable about beer and football. In fact, the more beer I drink the more knowledgeable I get. About football and any other topic.
And I get more attractive. Oh sorry, it’s the women who get more attractive.

  38. RMH says:

Guess contributors for rival clubs………… ie Spurs.

  39. Goatygav says:

Lol! Have you got a website with them on? Beergoggles dot com?

  40. Goatygav says:

Could be a little add on to Iain’s new look site?

  41. Matty says:

would be great to get an injury page going with updates on expected return dates.

    – Am fed up of never really knowing when we expect long-term absenties like Deano, Dyer and Gabby!

  42. Upton Spark says:

Good site already Ian,but I would like if possible to have a section where we could all have a general chat page where we could set our own subjects and see what others think.
The other thing that will probably not be possible is,have you got the time to have a regular section for ex players who could add some content themselves or you could ask them questions on the fans behalf.
    Thanks from the Spark.

  43. oz ex chicken runner says:

Would not want to see the site too “flashy”, what i like about it is that you find out the inside info or subjects to debate and then hand over to the fans to make their observations..it is the variety and often insightful comments about the club etc that make it the best!! Also great to see Mooro up on the heading!!! Keep up the great work Iain and all the fans

  44. the headmaster says:

Bromley, eh, Roshi? There’s a thing!

  45. David King says:

Nice to know you have enough money to hire a media company to do a banner for a blog during this recession.
